Unity Vr Super Mario Galaxy Observatory

The application puts you in a building at UIC where in front of you there will be a kiosk. The kiosk will have some food items laying on the table you can grab and interact with. There will be some items that are floating and rotating that can't be interacted with because they are for display only. You can use the gold coins on the table to "spin" for the items. The kiosk, in essence, is selling the chance to roll for one of the foods on display and you will have four gold coins to drop on to a red object that looks like a button. The items that appear after doing this will be interactable where you can grab drop and throw them like a normal item. Additionally, there exists Grand Stars that change the appearance of the reactor in the center of the atrium and change the music playing. There are also interactables like the star bit, the star chip, the power star, as well as some powerups that come from touching the brick blocks around the atrium. You are able to travel across floors simply by walking into the star slings, which are flat star shaped discs that will teleport you to the next floor. Given that the project required us to use an environment based on the university building with many distinct parts, we had to be careful with which assets we used to ensure that the finished product was efficient enough to run a stable framerate in the Oculus Quest headset.

Reasoning for assets used

For the kiosk assets, I chose to add the vending machines because I wanted to fit the junk food aesthetic, which is the same reason I picked the sodas, energy drinks, burgers, and candy. When it comes to the trash bin, the table and the chair, I chose the trash bin to fill the image of throwing out leftover trash after eating junk food, and the table and chair were purely for the kiosk itself. I was not sure what to do to make a good looking display, so in the end I had the "hologram" display with a blue light showing the foods that would show up after dropping a coin on the red button. As to why I chose the Super Mario Galaxy aesthetic, it was because I figured the concept of being launched to different floors with the launch star would be amusing. I also took creative liberty in using the grand stars to change the music since they are key to change the environment in the original games and adding power stars, star bits, and the artwork were adding to the aesthetic.
